SMALL PILOT PROJECT "FROM THE SEA ONTO A TABLE"

On Saturday, 5th November 2016, at noon under the tent on the Medulin seafront near the Windmill, the vocal group Škerac inaugurated the programme of the Small Pilot Project "From the sea onto a table" final event organised by the Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) "Istrian Batana".

The programme continued with the welcome speech delivered by the FLAG "Istrian Batana" president  Mr. Goran Buić who, after the opening remarks and greetings, introduced all the fishermen and the restaurants who participated in the event. Furthermore, he invited the audience to enjoy the day with free tasting of a dozen fish and sea food specialities prepared by the following restaurants:   Mižerija, Restoran Candis-2, Restoran Etien,  Konoba Galiola,  Konoba Feral, Stara konoba,  Restoran Sopravento.

The entertainment programme included a lottery, an art auction and a briskula card game tournament from which all the collected funds, including donations, will be allocated to the dr. Mate Demarin  Elementary School in Medulin.

All the restaurants were awarded with the pilot project "From the sea onto a table" plaque that will serve as a distinguishing mark for the restaurants in the local community and the visitors as well as a quality guarantee of the fresh fish supplied by the local fishermen. The fishermen who have participated in the project were awarded with the certificate of appreciation while the FLAG "Istrian Batana" president   Mr. Goran Buić expressed gratitude to all the participants in the project and invited all other restaurant owners and fishermen to join FLAG in the future.

At 8 p.m. the programme continued with the Lighthouse band and promotional beverage prices.

The implementation of the project "From the sea onto a table" has been financed within the framework of the Operational Programme for Maritime and Fisheries 2014-2020, measure III.1.  "Preparation support", and has been created as a result of the identified needs for networking between the local fishermen and the restaurant owners on the FLAG territory with the aim to promote local fishery products and their consumption, to increase fishing entrepreneurship and to eventually create stronger and durable connections between the fishermen and the final consumers.

 

During the implemented activities within the pilot project, the FLAG "Istrian batana" acted as an intermediary in establishing a short supply chain on the target territory - the fisheries of the Southern Istria: the cities of Rovinj-Rovigno and Vodnjan – Dignano, and the municipalities of Bale – Valle, Barban, Fažana – Fasana, Kanfanar, Ližnjan – Lisignano, Marčana, Medulin and Svetvinčenat.

 

PRESENTATION OF THE SMALL PILOT PROJECT "FROM THE SEA ONTO A TABLE"

On 4th November 2016, at noon in the "3mc" Multimedia Centre of Medulin the results of a small pilot project "From the sea onto a table" were presented.

The programme started with the welcome speech delivered by FLAG "Istrian Batana"’s president,  Mr. Goran Buić. After the opening remarks and greetings, he highlighted the importance of the implemented activities within the pilot project "From The Sea Onto A Table" within which the FLAG "Istrian Batana" intends to act as an intermediary in establishing a short supply chain on the target territory – the fishery sector of the Southern Istria: the cities of Rovinj-Rovigno and Vodnjan – Dignano, and the municipalities of Bale – Valle, Barban, Fažana – Fasana, Kanfanar, Ližnjan – Lisignano, Marčana, Medulin and Svetvinčenat.

The assistant of the head of the Administrative Department for Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Water Management of the Istrian County, Mr. Graciano Prekalj also addressed the audience and pointed out the importance of FLAG as an institution for implementing sustainable development on the FLAG territory. He also underlined that the implemented pilot project "From The Sea Onto A Table" represents the first valuable step in the endeavours of the FLAG "Istrian Batana" as an intermediary between the fishermen and the restaurant owners in the area.

The head of FLAG "Istrian Batana", Ms. Katia Ereš, presented the activities implemented within the pilot project "From the sea onto a table" and the seminars organised with fishermen and restaurants owners. Ms. Ereš pointed out that the project idea has been created as a result of identified networking needs between the local fishermen and the restaurant owners on the FLAG territory with the aim to promote local fishery products and their consumption, to help the growth of the fishing entrepreneurship and in conclusion, to create stronger and durable connections between the fishermen and the final consumers.

At the end of the presentation of the pilot project "From the sea onto a table" results, a seminar on Marketing, certification, labelling and branding of fisheries products was held. The programme ended with the inauguration of the FLAG "Istrian Batana" office that has been equipped with the funds form the measure III.1. "Preparatory support".
